Studio Policy

*Studio Policy and Registration Form must fill out and turn in on the first day of class*

Teacher No Shows

  1. However, the studio shall assume financial responsibility should I (Annie) become ill, be out of town, or cancel for any reason due to schoolwork or family emergency; that lesson will be made up or rescheduled as soon as possible.

Late/Missing

  1. All classes begin and end at the given time. If a student is late for the lesson, the lesson will only continue until the indicated end time.
  2. In the event of a “No Call/No Show” to your piano lesson, your piano lesson is automatically forfeited and will offer no make-up class.
  3. Please text or call (whenever possible) when your child is sick.
  4. If you need to miss a lesson due to schedule conflict or any reason- please contact the instructor with as much advance notice (at least 1-2 weeks) to reschedule the lesson. Lessons may be rescheduled at the availability of the teacher. Please note that it is impossible to reschedule a class to another day in the same week.

Termination of Lessons

  1. Should you decide for any reason not to continue, I request four weeks’ notice. Tuition is non-refundable.
  2. Postponing lessons for any length of time will be treated as Termination, and the above rules still apply. If they desire to begin, they will be treated as new students: 1. There will be no lesson times available, and 2. Lesson times will be assigned to continuous students.
  3. If the student is not attending lessons consistently every week, even with advanced notice or valid reasons- I have the right to terminate the contract, and students will lose their spot.
  4. Inappropriate behavior toward me on the part of the student: This includes violent outlasting, swearing, defamation of character, inappropriate advances, or any other displays which fall outside the realm of shared respect and decency.
  5. Inappropriate behavior toward me on the part of a student’s parent(s): This includes all of the above.
  6. Failure to pay month lessons in full.

National Holidays

There are only two national holidays when the studio will be closed- Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The studio will be open for lessons on all other federal holidays for those who choose to be here. If you are gone on a national holiday, please let me know as soon as possible to adjust my teaching schedule to accommodate better those who will be here.

Summer

I recommend that all students continue lessons throughout the Summer. Summer is a time when some people like to take a rest in many ways. Please do not think that way about music lessons! When students quit for 2 to 3 months in the Summer they lose ground; it takes 1 to 2 months in the Fall to get back to their Spring level. They also lose their spot in my studio (see Termination above).

Summer is the perfect opportunity for excelling in your music studies. Some students may think they have less time in the Summer. While it is true that many people may go on a vacation, to camp, or for family visits, when you are home, you have more time than during the school year. This extra time allows for more practice time.

Practice and Parental Support

Sufficient scheduled practice time daily is the surest guarantee that you, or your child, will experience consistent progress at the piano. Learning the necessary skills to become proficient at the keyboard will not occur by merely going to piano lessons. It takes commuted practice daily during the week to put skills covered in the class into motion.

Music is not easy and can, at the time, become frustrating. Adults often take for granted that children are rarely self-motivated and lack the maturity (and self-discipline) to put in that all-important practice session. With a commitment to learning the art of music comes the decision to practice regularly—consistent progress results in pride, satisfaction, and a sense of accomplishment.
